project update

The wee monster film has been dropped by the director therefore I am putting the fire aside for now as the kelpie has a lot left to do if it is to be finished.

fire update

Time to start putting this fire together after working with the particles to see which way to go about making the fire I decided that having a surface emitter would be the best method to create a ring of fire. However I have recently received advice that I should use Maya fluids as the movement is more realistic. Therefore I have been watching a lot of digital tutors for Maya fluid fire and DVDs from the library on fire.

Toy Models

I have been working on some toy models and uv mapping them. i wanted to model simple toys as they will be in the background and would not be interacted with so it would be unnessasery to spend alot of time on them.

Hula hoop which was created with a pipe.

uv map Hula hoop

Piggy Bank created from a sphere and extuded.

piggy bank uv

play mat, really needs a texture. Created using a plane.

skipping rope, was not sure wheather or not to pose it
uv map, skipping rope using a sphere and extuding the end to creat the handle +rope

 Skittle, created using a cylinder
uv map skittle

space hopper created using a sphere and extruding the handles

Spinning top created using a cone duplicating it joining together and extruding the top for the handle

UV mapping

This week i have also been working in uv mapping some toys

 Lamp Uv

The rocket was a little bit uv unfriendly with the object being one mesh when there are parts that are reapeted.
Therefore i split the mesh up so only one object needds to be uv mapped and then the map can be transfered/duplicated how ever many times. can save a great deal of time.
 rocket wings
 rocket body

Storage box uv

Robot arms

Robot head

Robot Legs

Robot body

The robot took a while to uv map as there were parts of the mesh that were interpenetrating each other although you will not be able to see it, it does take time to map also the typology from the top of the model ran down to bottom creating unnesseray small faces and if you have to go in to select them it takes longer than it should.

Basic Fire tests

Here are a few basic fire tests where i look at a few different methods to see which one would be the best. the quality is not great but that was not the purpose for these tests. below are a few looking at different ways to emit particles.

Animatic Models

Here are a couple of models that were made for the animatic of wee monsters the Blog for this film can be found here:

http://djcadmonsters.blogspot.co.uk/

The bed was created from a cube and manipulatd then dulpicated to create the frame. The laders were extruded outwards. The bed sheets were extruded from the matress. The pillows were created from a plane and shaped, mirrowed joined together and duplicated.

The Toy box was created from a cube and extuded upwards to create back + sides. Also inwards to create the create the front panel. Faces were deleted to create the handles.

Uv mapped the toybox as i thought this was going to be used for the final one as well.
